Then I just listen. I give them space to share and I am always surprised by what I learn.

🚓 If someone is a police officer, there is a story there.
🦥 If someone spends all their time with animals, there is a story there.
There is so much more to know about each other if we just take the time to listen and connect.
Did you know in college I dreamed of working in prisons?
I wanted to understand how a criminal’s mind worked. I felt like if I could understand a criminal, I might be able to understand my father’s struggles with schizophrenia better and some of the choices he made.
Guess what?
I eventually DID work in prisons. I volunteered as a life coach in a level four prison. This is a high security prison because the crimes they were found guilty of required extra protection.

You can build a community wherever you are
You can be motivated in any circumstance
When I can see beyond someone’s shell (even in the most horrific situations) there is another soul just like me
